TRY Golf U9/U13

Welcome to the "TRY Golf U9/U13" program, designed to introduce novice players to the fundamentals of the game. If your child has never golfed before or has minimal experience (like the driving range or mini putt), this program offers an ideal starting point. Engaging in enjoyable team-based activities, participants will develop foundational skills and boost their confidence.

Our curriculum emphasizes key aspects of the game, including putting, chipping, pitching, and full swings. We commence with instruction on the fundamentals of a proper setup, covering essential elements such as grip, stance, and posture. Subsequently, we delve into refining balance and movement techniques. An overview of golf, including basic rules and common etiquette, is provided to ensure a well-rounded understanding of the sport, prioritizing both fun and safety. For the U9/U13 age groups, the experience includes playing the par 3 holes on our driving range.

To progress to the "LEARN Golf" level, children must demonstrate a proficient understanding of the setup (grip, stance, posture) and showcase competence in putting, chipping, and full swings, enabling them to navigate several holes on the course. We look forward to advancing their golfing journey with precision and skill.

2025 TRY Golf U9/U13 Program Specifics

* 11 week program, twice per week
* One weekly 40 minute group lesson and playing on the par 3 holes.
* GAME DAY: Play Sawmill's par 3 course every Thursday night at 6pm (June 12th to August 21st). Coach Kevin will organize the golf. Details will follow by email prior to the first game day.
* The player to coach ratio is 8:1
* Week 1: Monday, June 2nd to Sunday, June 8th
* Week 11: Monday, August 18th to Sunday, August 24th
* BREAK WEEK: All sessions will take a break from Monday, July 21st to Sunday, July 27th
* Two age divisions to ensure kids are learning with players of similar age and ability:
- U9 (2016/2017/2018)
- U13 (2013/2014/2015/2016)
   **NOTE: If your child was born in 2018 and is not ready for U9 (twice a week, including playing par 3 holes), please register them in TRY Golf U7.
* Every player receives a Sawmill Junior Golf hat
~ Lessons take place on the driving range, short game practice area or putting green (schedule will be posted at the entrance/parking area)
~ The following coaches will provide professional instruction for TRY GOLF U9/U13:
**Brody Whetham, PGA of Canada Class A Professional and a Master Kids Coach with US Kids Golf. Brody has 23 years of teaching experience and is one of Niagara's leading junior golf coaches. Brody is a US Kids Golf Certified Coach (uskidsgolf.com).
**Kevin Niznik, PGA of Canada Class A Professional and a 4 time Alberta PGA Junior Leader Finalist. Kevin has been teaching for 18 years and is a US Kids Golf Certified Coach (uskidsgolf.com).
**Mason Hildebrandt, PGA Community Coach Certified. Mason will qualify for the PGA of Canada Professional program in 2025. He has experience coaching in Sawmill's summer and adult programs under the leadership of Brody and Kevin. We are extremely confident in Mason's coaching ability and know he has a bright future ahead of him.

Cost: $220 + HST = $248.60 (includes all lessons and playing on the par 3 holes)

2025 TRY Golf U9/U13 REGISTRATION DETAILS

*RETURNING players (2024 summer TRY U7/U9/U13) can register on Tuesday February 4th at 8am. The registration link will be posted HERE.
*NEW players (including fall 2024 & winter 2025) can register on Monday February 10th at 8am. If you register early you will be refunded in full LESS a $50 admin fee.

- Registrations will be received on a first come, first serve basis.
- You will receive an automated confirmation email upon successfully registering.
- Your child’s first name and last initial (eg. Billy S) will be posted next to the session that you signed up for. *The website will be updated as quickly as possible. Please don’t send an email within minutes of registering if you don’t see your child’s name!

2025 JUNIOR FITTING DAY

~ Saturday, March 29th TRY Golf U9 / U13 10am to 11am (in the clubhouse)
~ pick up your hat (included in registration) and check out golf gloves, golf shoes, and kids clothing
~ Check out new and used US Kids Golf clubs for sale
~ Get properly fit for US Kids Golf clubs
